China? Yes, China. This is an earlier project that was revealed in April, but popped back on our radar today, demanding attention. It’s the ASPEC PPM500, built by the same company who gave us that 400 hp Golf R.
From what we gather, the PPM500 is just an aero kit. It starts with a cool insert for the front bumper, which adds three-dimensionality using blades and scoops. Also included is a carbon fiber front grille.
Around the back, we notice a carbon diffuser has been installed, together with sports exhaust, other smaller trim pieces and a spoiler. Side skirts are also available, which together with larger wheels give the Ghibli a more dynamic appearance.
The video ASPEC showed before 2015 Beijing Auto Show reveals the Ghibli’s engine sounds like clappers. Currently, the most powerful version of the Ghibli features a 3-liter twin-turbo engine producing 410 horsepower. So it’s not inconceivable that these fine Chinese tuners managed to extract the magic Five Double O, justifying the PPM500 name.
With that kind of power and the Ghibli’s Q4 all-wheel drive, the car could sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds and up to around 300 km/h (186 mph).
